Unplanned pregnancy help
Who can I talk to?
An unplanned pregnancy can be a confusing, stressful and difficult time and you may not know what to do or who you can talk to. There are organisations in Ireland that can help or you can call us in England at any time.
Marie Stopes Reproductive Choices is a supportive, pro-choice Dublin based organisation offering advice, counselling and medical consultations (including scanning) for women considering abortion. You can contact them 24 hours on (01) 830 0630 for more information or have a look at their website www.reproductivechoices.ie
There are other agencies who can help and who will give you information on all unplanned pregnancy options, have a look at www.positiveoptions.ie for more information.
What are my unplanned pregnancy options?
If you are pregnant, you have the following options:
- Continue with the pregnancy and keep the baby.
If you wish to do this you should contact your GP who will arrange anti-natal care - Continue with the pregnancy and consider adoption or fostering
For more information about this option the Adoption Authority of Ireland will be able to help you. They can be contacted on (01) 230 9300 or www.adoptionboard.ie - End the pregnancy through abortion
If you do not wish to continue with the pregnancy, abortion is easier and safer the sooner it is carried out
A warning
If you do decide that you do not wish to continue with the pregnancy not all organisations in Ireland will give you the information that you need to obtain abortion services as they oppose it. These are known as ‘pro life’ or ‘anti-choice’ groups. Have a look at these tips for avoiding anti-choice organisations for further help.
