As early pregnancy signs become visible to you when you didn’t plan to be pregnant, the experience can be daunting, overwhelming, and emotionally stressful.
If you decide that you would like to end an unwanted pregnancy, there are safe and legal options available for you. We understand that there are many reasons why you may feel unable to cope with a pregnancy right now. The decision is yours to make and we will support your choice without judgement.
Arranging Abortion Care
If ending the pregnancy is the right decision for you, it is legal for you to:
- Seek information about abortion
- Come to England for abortion care
You can self-fund this treatment, and choose to visit one of our centres or clinics in a location and at a time that suits you.
We have dedicated staff on hand 24 hours a day, 7 days a week who can talk you through how to make an appointment over the phone.
Security and Confidentiality
You don’t have to discuss your abortion care appointment with your GP if you don’t want to. It’s entirely your decision if you want your GP to be notified.
We understand that it can be worrying to let your GP know about your treatment due to the legal restrictions in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Please be reassured that coming to England for abortion care is completely legal, and you are not breaking the law if you want to talk to your GP about it.
Your details will always be secure from the moment you call our advice line. You will be given a personal security PIN number and a secret question when they call our appointment booking line. This PIN and security question will only be known to you and Marie Stopes UK, and helps us to keep information private and secure. We ask for this PIN every time we speak with you over the phone. As we’re an independent provider of NHS services as well as self-funded services, we meet strict data protection rules to follow the Data Protection Act 1998.

They may tell you information about abortion that is untrue and based on myth.
